Learn on the Go – Podcasts of the Week #6 (Week of 5/30/16)

Whether it be the daily commute or early morning cardio, cooking dinner or doing the chores, walking the mall or relaxing poolside on a weekend – podcasts are a great way to conveniently sneak in a little extra learning for the week. In this weekly installment, I share with you a shortlist of listen-worthy podcasts – old and new – to check out this week. Enjoy!

Top Coach Podcast – Episode 166: Jack Leggett

The Top Coach Baseball Podcast is a terrific library of baseball-specific podcasts. I emphasize library because there are almost 200 episodes of the show, which is hosted by Jack Warren, a great orator and interviewer. In this library of shows you will find interviews between Jack and many college, high school, and professional baseball coaches – some of the best to ever step on a baseball field. And, the majority of these podcast episodes are nearly an hour long, chalk full of insightful and interesting coaching stories, philosophies and lessons.

This specific episode is, in fact, features one of the greatest collegiate baseball coaches to ever do it – Jack Leggett. I’ll save my summary and let Jack Warren dig deep into Coach Leggett’s athletic background, coaching tree, and guiding philosophies, but I will say that there is a reason why Jack Leggett is one of the most respected coaches in and out of the game, and why he was able to build such a prestigious dynasty during his time at Clemson. I was completely entrenched in this episode, taking many notes, and I am sure you will want to as well!

Top Coach Podcast – Episode 178: Butch Thompson, Auburn

auburn

Another great episode that I’d recommend listening to from the Top Coach Podcast is a more recent interview with Butch Thompson, who is in his first season as the Head Coach of Auburn University’s baseball program. Jack Warren probes into Coach Thompson’s resume, really bringing to light all of the dues that he paid as he worked his way through the collegiate coaching trenches. Beyond this, Coach Thompson talks about his mentors, as well as how he goes about developing character along with the traits that make for a successful ballplayer and team.
These two podcast episodes make up about 1% of the Top Coach Podcast library, and while I highly recommend these specific episodes, there are so many more that hold equal value and are worthy of praise. So, I’d be remised if I didn’t recommend the entire Top Coach Podcast library for players, coaches, and parents looking to hear from the best baseball coaches in the country without ever having to leave home (or pay a single penny). Can you really beat that?
